Only 33% of the top 200 UK cloud providers in our most recent cloudscape offer online ordering and onboarding. Worst offenders? Communications and online workspace providers. Best in class? Online accounting providers. Check out the graph below to find out how other categories perform.
These results mirror those of the top 250 Dutch cloud providers although on a per category basis there are significant differences. UK HRM providers score better than their Dutch counterparts. But UK collaboration, PaaS and IaaS vendors score significantly worse.
Like in The Netherlands, multitenant SaaS is the norm within UK online accounting whereas single tenant SaaS is the norm within (hosted) VoIP and online workspace which partially explains the percentage difference between the two. The other reason is that providers that have a hosting partner are much more likely to offer online ordering and onboarding (see Figure below).
55% of UK SaaS providers on hosted infrastructure provide onboarding with a swipe of the credit card. Only 19% of those that operate their own infrastructure do the same.
Consumer buying behaviour is shifting, and the customer buying experience is becoming increasingly important. CIO’s no longer control what comes in and what goes out, they are increasingly pushed by employees’ BYOD and BYOapp into the enterprise. It seems the majority of UK SaaS vendors are not ready yet for this shift. Are you?
